A mixed basket of conditions for Easter weekend in Calgary

A weather roller coaster for the weekend. Gina Martin has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

It’s going to be a long weekend that will call for sunglasses on one day and a raincoat the next.

Let’s start with Thursday, where during the morning, commuters with travel plans north of Calgary may encounter some wet snow on the QEII.

The cold front pushing in this snow could even bring some wet flurries to the city later this morning at around 8:30 a.m.

The winds will persist out of the north at 20-40 km/h throughout the afternoon which will keep us below seasonal with a high of 8C, but a ridge of high pressure in B.C. will start to bring some clearing conditions later this afternoon.

We will really experience the influence of that ridge on Good Friday, with mainly sunny conditions, decently calm winds and a lovely high of 16C!

This would probably be the best day of the long weekend to do an Easter egg hunt outdoors.

The ridge will be short-lived, as a cool Arctic air mass in northern Canada will push southwards, causing widespread trough to form over much of Western Canada.

On Saturday, clouds will take over the Calgary sky and bring rain in the afternoon with a high of 9C.

The trough will stick around for the rest of the Easter long weekend, continue to push our temperatures down and producing precipitation in the form of rain or snow on Sunday and Monday.

Regardless of the weather, hope you all have a hoppy Easter with your loved ones, just be safe out on the roads!
