1 dead following parking lot stabbing outside Calgary bar

Published:

Calgary homicide detectives are looking for witnesses to a fatal fight in a southwest Calgary parking lot the early morning of April 26, 2025.

An investigation is underway following a a stabbing that left one person dead early Saturday morning.

At about 1:55 a.m., police responded to reports of a fight in a parking lot outside of a bar on the 700 block of 10 Avenue S.W.

Police discovered three victims with stab wounds. A 21-year-old man was transported to hospital by EMS, but was declared dead on arrival.

A second victim remains in hospital in stable condition, while a third victim has been released.

Before police arrived, witnesses and suspects fled the scene on foot, leading to foot chases involving patrol officers and canine unit officers.

Four people were taken into custody.

At a press update Saturday afternoon, homicide unit Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson said the incident was not unique to the area.

“It’s no different than any other downtown bar down there where we have an unfortunate incident that occurred, probably fuelled by ego and alcohol, at the end of the night,” Gregson said. “Tragically, somebody has lost their life, and we’re continuing to investigate that incident.”

Anyone with information, or video they believe may be relevant to the investigation, is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online or by downloading the P3 Tips app.

“It was at the end of the night,” Gregson said. “We know there was a lot of people that were out, and from our initial review and what we see, there were a lot of people that began to videotape this incident as it occurred and progressed.

“That’s very important to us because it can help us identify all the people involved – so what we’re asking for right now is anybody that may have been down there that we haven’t spoken to, if they can contact us and provide us the video that they may have, that’s going to aid our investigation."

Investigators are interested in speaking to one witness, who they believe left in a dark-coloured Tesla. They don’t believe the witness was involved in the fight.

“We are committed to finding answers for the victim’s family and are pleading with anyone with information to come forward,” Gregson said.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday morning.
