Snowmobile sales skyrocket

CTV Barrie: Snowmobile sales skyrocket People are revving up for winter and snowmobile sales are higher than ever. Roger Klein explains the reason behind the big numbers.

Snowmobiles are being sold at a record pace in anticipation of a snowy winter.

“We sold through almost our entire order we did last year,” said Stephen St. Onge from St.Onge Recreation. “Normally we sell 50, 60 percent not 90 percent of our order. It's very unusual to have that kind of sales.”

Brandon Green at Parkway Yamaha in Collingwood says “this year it was all year round they were looking to buy new and used sleds.”

Snowmobilers are expecting a snowy winter because of the cooler weather this past summer.

Snowmobile clubs won’t be able to make improvements to the trails this winter because they did the equivalent of two seasons worth of grooming last winter, and don’t have money to cover the improvements.

“Our economy is really snow driven,” said St.Onge. “When we have a winter like that … the spin off effect is fantastic. The trails are fantastic, the clubs keep them in good shape, and people are riding which is exactly what we want.”

Snowmobilers can save $30 if they purchase their trail permits online from the OFSC before November 1st.
