The annual Skate Escape program at Friday Harbour Resort opened for the season this weekend, with the first skaters taking to the ice on Friday.
As one of the resort’s feature winter activities, the Skate Escape offers ice skating along the marina to go with drinks, treats and an ‘Après Skate’ bar and lounge to warm up in.
Resort staff say the rink size has doubled since last season.
“We’re very excited and thrilled to be welcoming everyone to our newer and expanded version of the Skate Escape, now back in its fourth year. And, of course, with the beautiful and picturesque background of our marina and almost-frozen Lake Simcoe,” said Hani Roustom, CEO of Friday Harbour Resort. “It’s about the promenade, it’s about having some fun time with the family. There’s always something happening.”

The Skate Escape is complementary and runs from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Fridays, 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sundays until the end of the season. Skates and helmets can be rented at an additional cost.
The resort will also be offering special programming for Valentine’s Day and March Break.
