Provincial police are searching for the suspect involved in a Thursday evening robbery at an Orillia business, where the suspect allegedly injured an employee before fleeing with store items.

According to Orillia OPP, officers were called to the Coldwater Road West business at around 10:30 p.m. for a robbery incident involving an edged weapon.

Police say a male suspect entered the business and demanded cash from a store employee, which was followed by an altercation between the pair.

The suspect then allegedly wielded an edged weapon and the employee sustained minor injuries.

Police say the incident ended with the suspect fleeing the scene after stealing the cash register and a cellphone.

Orillia OPP released photos of the suspect, describing him as having a dark-coloured beard, a grey hooded jacket, a black Under Armour shirt, grey pants and grey running shoes. Further details of his facial appearance could not be determined, as police say his face was covered.

Orillia OPP’s major crime, street crime, forensic identification, emergency response, canine, and offender management units were all involved in the initial call.

Anyone with information that could help identify and locate the suspect is urged to contact the Orillia Major Crime Unit (MCU).
