Several road closures across the region as police urge public to stay home

Provincial police closed several roads across the region due to reduced visibility and blowing snow on Tuesday.

Police say reduced visibility and whiteout conditions along roads and highways across central Ontario, combined with snow squalls are expected to continue throughout the day on Tuesday, prompting another urgent plea to the public to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

Innisfil

In Innisfil, Big Bay Point Road has been closed temporarily at the 25th Sideroad after several cars became stuck in snow drifts.

Highway 26 is closed north of Horseshoe Valley Road in Springwater Township.

Alliston

Alliston’s Mackenzie Street is closed between King Street South and Hancey Crescent due to a water main break. There are approximately 35 homes impacted by the incident.

Springwater and Tiny Townships

Police say roads are covered by a non-stop snow shower, forcing several closures.

- Flos Road 11 W from County Road 27 to Twin Pines Drive in Wasaga Beach

- Flos Road 10 W from County Road 27 to Vigo Road

- Flos Road 8 W from County Road 27 to Vigo Road

- Flos Road 7 W from County Road 27 to Vigo Road

- County Road 27 is closed from Train Blvd to Flos Road 7

- County Road 92 is closed from Wasaga to Elmvale

- Flos Road 6 W from County Road 27 to Ryther Road

- County Road 27 from Highway 93 to County Road 6

Police also closed South Orr Lake Road from Elmvale to Baseline Road.

Concession 2 East between Dawsons Sideroad and Baseline Road is closed, and County Road 6 from Tiny Township Concession Roads 6-8 is blocked due to inclement weather.

UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: Police reopened County Road 27 from Highway 93 to Baseline Road in Tiny Township.

Grey Highlands

OPP closed Highway 10 between Markdale and Flesherton, and Grey Road 14 in Grey Highlands.

Stranded Motorists Rescued

Southern Georgian Bay officers drove snowmobiles out to rescue people stranded on several Flos roads in Springwater Township Monday night.

Officers trudged through deep, heavy snow to reach motorists in blizzard-like conditions.

“Please stay at home if at all possible until crews can clear clogged roadways and just maybe it will stop snowing,” OPP concluded.
