Torro Group, a Barrie-based real estate firm, held their second annual ‘Street Dinner’ on Easter Sunday, serving 150 meals outside the Busby Centre shelter on Mulcaster Street.
Each community member received a container of jerk chicken, rice, peas and coleslaw before choosing from an assortment of Gatorade and pop drinks.
“This isn’t about religion, it’s about hope, and people coming here today are very thankful,” said Jay McNabb, Torro Group owner. “It’s about being down here and reminding people that they’re not forgotten.”
There was also a table of clothing items and toiletries for those who needed.
McNabb adds that overcoming his own hardships inspired him to lead his firm in giving back to those who are struggling.
“I was blessed with a second chance, and that second chance, I’ve taken it, and I’ve ran” recalled McNabb. “Real estate is great, but I know there’s a big calling for me in life. And that’s community, and to be able to give back, and to be able to touch lives and leave a legacy.”
Torro Group will be hosting their annual charity golf tournament at Bear Creek Golf Club in June to raise funds for local youth who are at-risk.
