Local bars gear up for Super Bowl Sunday

Bars in Barrie discuss the importance of Super Bowl Sunday for their business.

While Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest day of the year for football fans, it is also one of the most important days of the year for sports bars.

“We probably do more business [on Super Bowl Sunday] than we do in an entire week combined,” said Jennifer Foster, co-owner of CW Coop’s in Barrie and Angus.

CW Coop’s and other local bars geared up for the big day with plenty of chicken wings, nachos, beer and other eats in anticipation for high customer and food volumes.

Foster says Super Bowl Sunday is their second busiest day of the year after Canada Day.

“The worst thing you would want to do is to run out of chicken wings on Super Bowl Sunday,” she added.

For their Super Bowl party, CW Coop’s will be holding prizes, draws, games with servers, and specials for food and drinks, such as half-priced wings.

At Perfect SZN, their Bradford location will once again be holding a buffet-style party for the big game to serve more customers more food more efficiently.

“It makes it a lot easier on not only people coming to enjoy themselves, but it makes it easier on staff too because it’s a high volume to keep up with and kitchens are only so big and so fast,” said Adam Miller from Perfect SZN’s Barrie location.

“It’s a lot of people wanting to come out together,” added Miller. “They want to come out as groups. And while it’s great doing stuff at home, there’s a lot of cleanup at home. Where here, you get to come, sit back, enjoy, have people bring you your drinks, bring you your food. So it’s a part of community more than just coming to a restaurant.”

Lockeroom in Barrie told CTV News last year that they prepared approximately 5,000 to 6,000 chicken wings for Super Bowl Sunday.
