Flood warnings remain in effect, and Dufferin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are working with officials in Grand Valley, Amaranth and East Garafraxa to monitor the situation.
Cautionary notes:
- Gas-powered equipment: Residents and businesses using gas-powered generators or water pumps should ensure the area is well-ventilated to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Take care when using these devices indoors or in enclosed spaces.
- Drones: Local officials will be flying drones to assess flood damage and police advise residents not to be alarmed if they see drones as this is part of the damage assessment process.
- Sandbags: are being prepared for future flooding should the situation worsen.
- Stay Away from Waterways: Due to rising water levels, it’s essential to stay away from all waterways. Keep pets and children at a safe distance from flood-prone areas to avoid potential accidents and drowning risks.
- Water Testing: If your property has been affected by flooding, test your water to ensure it is safe for consumption. Floodwaters can contaminate wells and drinking water, and testing helps to avoid potential health risks.
- Plan Accordingly: If you live in a flood-prone area, it is essential to take proactive steps to protect your property. Local authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
And finally, Const. Andrew Fines with the Dufferin OPP cautions residents about photographing the flooding.
“We know many of you are eager to capture the devastating sights of the floodwaters but remember, getting too close to danger can put your life at risk, as well as the safety of our first responders,” said Fines.
“People hanging off signs and bridges to get that perfect shot is not a smart decision. Always prioritize safety and keep in mind: no photo is worth compromising your well-being.”
Additionally, Fines added, that Dufferin police will provide photos taken from a safe distance.
