Power restored after ‘equipment failure’ leaves nearly 2,000 in the dark

Nearly 2,000 residents in the Tay Township area were without power for several hours on Saturday due to an equipment failure at an electrical substation, which has since been reportedly addressed.

10:07 p.m.

In a social media update, NT Power confirmed that the power has been restored. Their outage map no longer showed any outages in the Southern Georgian Bay area.

5:20 p.m.

NT Power stated that crews were still working on the scene but delayed the estimated restoration time by two hours from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m..

3:16 p.m.

NT Power explained that the cause of the outage was an equipment failure at their Victoria Harbour station. Crews were reportedly still on scene working to restore power, with an estimated restoration time of 7 p.m.

1:54 p.m.

NT Power confirmed that 1,800 homes and businesses in the area of Victoria Harbour have been affected. Crews are reportedly working to restore power.

12:52 p.m.

According to a social media post by Southern Georgian Bay OPP, the electrical issue originating in Victoria Harbour has led to outages in the villages of Port McNicoll and Victoria Harbour.

According to NT Power’s outage map, the unplanned outage has impacted nearly 2,000 customers as far west as Midland and as far east as Waubaushene.
