One person is facing charges for allegedly fleeing police in a stolen vehicle.

Late Tuesday morning, South Simcoe police say an officer patrolling Bridge Street in Bradford spotted an inconsistency with a licence plate on a pickup truck, so the officer followed the vehicle into a parking lot on Yonge Street in York Region.

After conducting a traffic stop, police say the driver of the pickup attempted to take off, resulting in the truck crashing into a ditch. The driver was arrested at the scene.

Police launched an investigation, calling on members of the street crime unit, and the combined Barrie police-South Simcoe police Street Crime Auto Theft Unit, and say they discovered the truck had been reported stolen from Peel Region in 2022.

Officers also allegedly found suspected cocaine and suspected crack cocaine, along with some cash resulting in drug-related charges for the accused - a 37-year-old man from Brampton - who also faces flight from police, dangerous operation, and possession of stolen property offences.
