A 30-year-old commercial vehicle truck driver faces several charges after being pulled over by police in Loretto over the weekend for allegedly stunt driving.

Provincial police with the Nottawasaga OPP detachment say an officer stopped the commercial motor vehicle (CMV) after clocking it speeding 102 kilometres per hour in a posted 60km/h zone on Saturday morning.

The accused faces charges of stunt driving due to allegedly speeding 40km/h or more in a zone posted under 80km/h. He is also charged with driving a CMV without a currently validated permit and failing to accurately complete the daily inspection report.

Additionally, the truck company was fined for failing to ensure a proper daily inspection was conducted. As a result of the charges laid against the driver, the truck was towed to an impound yard for 14 days, and his licence was suspended for 30 days.

"This serves as a serious reminder that speeding and non-compliance put everyone at risk. Commercial drivers and companies must prioritize safety and follow the rules," OPP stated.
