Bursts of heavy snow are expected in Thursday’s weather forecast, according to Environment Canada.

Residents in Simcoe County and Southern Grey County are bracing for hazardous winter weather as snow squalls are set to make an appearance.

A weather advisory issued late Thursday morning forecasts heavy lake-effect snow, with accumulations of five to 10 centimetres. The snow is expected to begin in the afternoon and continue into the evening, potentially lasting overnight, according to the national weather agency.

While squalls are expected to be intermittent, some areas could experience more prolonged activity, making night drives hazardous.

Earlier Thursday morning, Environment Canada issued a snow squall watch for Northern Grey County, targeting areas like Owen Sound and the Blue Mountains. The agency predicts heavy lake-effect snow, with local accumulations of 15 to 30 centimetres by Friday morning.

Strong northwesterly winds, with gusts up to 50-kilometres-an-hour are expected, especially in exposed areas, says the agency.

Meanwhile, a winter weather travel advisory remains in effect for Port Carling, Port Severn, and Parry Sound.

This region is expected to see snow throughout the day, with accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres by evening.

Visibility will be reduced in heavy snow and blowing snow, making driving conditions treacherous, concluded the weather agency.
