According to reports, one intoxicated man was spotted walking off the sidewalk and into live traffic lanes in Barrie.
Early Wednesday morning, an officer from the Barrie Police Service was on general patrol driving on Bayfield Street at Highway 400, when they say they observed a man walking off of the sidewalk and into the live lanes of Bayfield Street.
The officer said he stopped the man and took him into custody after determining that he was intoxicated in a public place, contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act.
Officials say the man was taken to police headquarters where he was lodged until it was safe to release him.
“Although incidents such as this are rare, the proactive actions displayed by the involved officer are supported within this provincial legislation and exist where a person is not able to care for themselves or it is believed by police, that the safety of the person is at risk,” Barrie Police concluded in a release on Wednesday.
