Officers arrested a 16-year-old boy following a search that involved the K9 unit in a south Barrie neighbourhood on Wednesday.

Local authorities say uniformed officers and police dogs tracked the teen through several backyards in the Glenridge and Carol roads area.

The situation prompted communication from school officials, including the principal with Allandale Heights Public School, who notified parents and guardians that the police investigation never posed a threat to students or staff. Principal Tyler Cave stated the school day progressed as usual.

The teen was taken into custody without incident. Police say he was wanted on four outstanding warrants, but did not provide further details. The boy’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

“The incident, which was isolated, at no time impacted public safety and was concluded in 21 minutes,” Barrie Police Services corporate communications coordinator Peter Leon stated.

Police say the accused spent the night in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing sometime today.
