Fiat-Chrysler is bringing back one of its grooviest Heritage Hues, Plum Crazy purple, on a limited run of 2016 Dodge Challenger and Charger models. (see photos)
The colour will be available for order in September through to the end of the year, but a pre-production purple-painted example of each car will debut at the Woodward Dream Cruise August 15, FCA says.
“Powerful muscle cars painted in impactful colors make Woodward Dream Cruise the perfect setting for Dodge to debut the newest generation Challenger and Charger models in Plum Crazy,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Brand and SRT Brand President and Chief Executive Officer.
The Plum Crazy coulour option, which originally debuted in 1970, can be ticked on Challenger and Charger SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Scat Pack and Hellcat trims.
“From the aggressive and in-your-face styling of the SRT Hellcat models, the reverberating black stripes on our Shaker models, to the nostalgic dual A-line side stripes in satin black or gloss white on the R/T Classic model – Plum Crazy further builds on Dodge brand’s muscle-car roots and adds to Challenger and Charger’s vibrant legacy,” said Mark Trostle, Head of Dodge and SRT Design..
FCA also released a production-numbers breakdown of the special-edition and special-paint Dodges it's built since 2006; collectively, they represent less than 11 percent of all of the 1.5 million Chargers and Challengers made between then and now.
Among the rarest are the 2013 model year Hemi Orange Charger SRT8s (just 48 made) and 2014 model year Bright White or Pitch Black Challenger Shaker cars (51 and 60 made, respectively).
