The cruise ship season has officially begun on Prince Edward Island.

Port Charlottetown welcomed its first ship Saturday morning. It said this marks the start of the second-longest season in its history.

“This year’s schedule reflects the growing global demand for Prince Edward Island as a must-visit destination on the Canada–New England itinerary,” said Kelly Murphy, Port Charlottetown cruise development director, in a news release.

“It’s a testament to the strength of our tourism industry and the dedicated people behind it—our operators, businesses, and community partners—who help create unforgettable experiences for every guest who comes ashore.”

Port Charlottetown said it is expected to welcome more than 131,000 passengers and 57,800 crew between April 19 and Nov. 3.

Last year, Port Charlottetown saw 94 ships with a combined 220,116 passengers and crew members.
