A man has died following a head-on collision in central Prince Edward Island Wednesday morning.

Queens District RCMP, New Glasgow Fire Department and Island EMS responded to the two-vehicle crash on Route 2 in Hazel Grove around 7:50 a.m.

Police say it appears a car crossed the centre line and collided with a small SUV in the opposite lane.

The driver of the car, a Queens County man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman in the SUV suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say no one else was seriously injured.

Route 2 was down to one lane for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene. It has since reopened.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
