$33M multi-sport facility officially opens in Charlottetown

After tens of millions of dollars and nearly three years of construction work, a multi-sport facility in Charlottetown is open to the public.

The Simmons Sports Centre, located on North River Road, had its official opening on Friday, according to a news release from the City of Charlottetown. Construction on the project began in January 2022 and wrapped up last December.

It cost $33.6 million to build, replacing the old facility that had been open for more than 50 years.

The new facility features:

-an NHL-sized rink

-fixed seating for more than 600 spectators

-an indoor walking track

-a 25-metre outdoor swimming pool

-a community room

-multiple dressing rooms

The facility will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
