Nova Scotia RCMP has arrested an Ontario man in connection with suspected drug trafficking by an outlaw motorcycle gang in St. Catharines, Ont.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) biker enforcement unit informed Nova Scotia police about a possible suspect in drug trafficking activity who was believed to be travelling into the Maritime province in a black Kia Sorento on April 5, according to an RCMP news release.
Officers spotted the vehicle driving east on Highway 104 near Amherst around 9:20 a.m. that day. They stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver.
Police say officers searched the vehicle and seized:
- five kilograms of cocaine
- a firearm modified to look like an AK-47
- ammunition
- a quantity of cash
Scott Rempel, 37, was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.
Rempel was remanded into custody and is expected to appear in Amherst Provincial Court on Friday.
According to a separate news release from the OPP, the drug trafficking investigation in St. Catharines resulted in the seizure of roughly 101 kilograms of suspected cocaine and more than $215,000 in Canadian currency from a Richmond Hill residence on April 4.
Four people have been charged with eight offences.
