Nearly 1,400 drivers in Nova Scotia received impaired-related charges in 2024, which represented a slight dip from 2023’s numbers.
The RCMP says it charged 1,398 drivers for offences like:
-impaired operation of a conveyance by alcohol (695 drivers)
-driving suspensions for impaired operation (479 drivers)
- refusal of a demand made by a peace officer (166 drivers)
-impaired operation of a conveyance by drug (40 drivers with 18 more awaiting lab results)
In 2023, police charged 1,511 drivers in Nova Scotia for impaired-related offences, including 755 for impaired operation due to alcohol and 85 for impairment due to drugs.
Earlier this month, Nova Scotia RCMP said they responded to 77 fatal collisions in 2024, a sharp increase to the 45 crashes in 2023.
