Man with loaded firearm, body armour charged after being removed from Halifax bus: police

Halifax Regional Police has charged a 24-year-old man after they say he was in possession of a loaded firearm and body armour on a city bus.

Around 11:45 p.m. Sunday, police were helping to remove a man, who they say was intoxicated, from a Halifax Transit bus that was stopped at the transit terminal in the 800 block of Portland Street in Dartmouth.

The force says officers removed the man, who had a loaded firearm and body armour on him. Both items were seized.

The man is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date to face charges of:

  • possession of a dangerous weapon to the public
  • possession of a firearm without a licence
  • possession of a firearm contrary to a court order
  • unsafe storage of a firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime
  • fail to comply with conditions of a probation order
