A man wanted on provincewide warrants has been arrested following a collision near Brookfield, N.S.
The Truro Police Service said officers were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint on McClures Mills Road shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, when two drivers sped through the checkpoint nearly hitting the officers.
Police said officers tried to catch up with the drivers, who were travelling south on Highway 102, when it appears they lost control while trying to exit the highway. After the crash, three males exited the car and ran into a nearby wooded area.
The RCMP was called in to assist, along with its police dog services and Emergency Response Team.
Shortly after, officers with the Truro Police Service arrested Tayshawn Maloney, 27, who was wanted for several offences in Halifax and Millbrook, including attempted murder and aggravated assault. Police said the warrant is unrelated to this investigation.
RCMP then arrested a 17-year-old male from Eastern Passage. Police said he was armed and wearing body armour at the time of the arrest.
Police are still trying to locate a third male.
During the investigation, the Truro Police Service seized three firearms, two sets of body armour and ammunition. The two vehicles involved in the collision were also seized. Police said one is believed to have been stolen.
RCMP said the investigation into the crash and firearms is being led by the Truro Police Service. Numerous charges are pending. Both people arrested remain in custody.
