Two men have been charged after a gun was fired during an attempted robbery in Turtle Creek, N.B., last week.
The RCMP responded to a report of a possible robbery in progress and a weapon fired near a home on Route 910 around 7:20 p.m. Saturday.
The caller told police two people dressed in camouflage were in his driveway. However, they fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.
No one was injured.
The RCMP called in specialized units, including the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, to assist. They also used a drone in the search for the suspects.
Investigators quickly determined the people involved all knew one another and it was not an isolated incident. Police say it didn’t meet the criteria for an Alert Ready message.
The next day, police executed a search warrant at a home on Fatima Drive in Riverview, N.B. They arrested two men from Riverview and seized the following items:
- three firearms, including two that were loaded
- a “significant” amount of ammunition
- a camera system
- cellphones
- camouflage clothing
Kyle McLaughlin, 41, appeared in Moncton provincial court on Monday. He is facing the following charges:
- possession of prohibited firearms
- possession of firearms without holding a licence
- unsafe storage of firearms
- discharge of a firearm while being reckless
- careless use of a firearm
- attempting to steal a motor vehicle
Michael Wilson, 49, also appeared in Moncton provincial court on Monday. He is facing the following charges:
- obstructing a peace officer
- failure to comply with a release order
- failure to comply with an undertaking
- attempting to steal a motor vehicle
- driving while suspended
Both men were remanded into custody. McLaughlin is due back in court on April 15. Wilson is due back in court at a later date that wasn’t specified.
