NB Liquor says no personal or financial information was accessed during a “cyber event” that shut down debit and credit card transactions at stores earlier this month.
Lori Stickles, CEO of NB Liquor, said they conducted an investigation into the cyber event on Jan. 7 and have determined no employee, customer or partner information – be it personal or financial – was accessed. They also learned no malware or ransomware was installed in the systems.
An internal business directory – which involves phone numbers and email addresses of internal employees and certain partners – was accessed, but NB Liquor says much of that information was already publicly available.
“We take our responsibility as a Crown Corporation seriously,” Stickles said in a news release. “We followed our internal process for potential information breach to ensure no personal information was compromised.
“After confirming the information that was accessed did not include personal information, out of an abundance of caution, we notified the affected partners to be extra vigilant to phishing attempts to their business emails.”
NB Liquor said it found a technical issue with its point-of-sale system, resulting in a temporary shutdown of corporate stores on Jan. 8. Cannabis NB stores didn’t close, but could only process cash transactions.
All stores resumed debit and credit card transactions last Sunday.
