Police say a 17-year-old boy from the north shore of Montreal has died following a two-vehicle collision in Bathurst, N.B., Monday afternoon.

RCMP, fire and ambulance crews responded to a report of a collision between a car and a truck hauling a trailer on Route 11 near the King Avenue exit around 2:20 p.m.

Police believe the crash happened when the car, which was travelling northbound on Route 11, crossed over the centre line and hit the trailer, which was travelling in the southbound lane.

The driver of the car died at the scene.

A passenger in the car was taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck’s driver and passenger were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

A member of the New Brunswick Coroner’s office is also assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted to determine the boy’s exact cause of death.

Route 11 and both the on and off ramps for King Avenue were closed for several hours following the crash. They have since reopened.
