Man charged after assaulting people, stealing vehicle in drive-thru: Saint John police

A 33-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly stole a vehicle at a drive-thru in Saint John, N.B.

Police say the man approached a vehicle in a drive-thru in the area of McAllister Drive and tried to gain entry around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The man allegedly assaulted a male in the parking lot and made further attempts to enter other vehicles, according to a news release from police.

“The suspect then proceeds to an adjacent establishment and approached another vehicle in the drive-thru,” reads the news release from the Saint John Police Force.

“The driver was assaulted; bystanders intervened to assist the driver. The suspect stole the vehicle and left the scene.”

Police say officers found the stolen vehicle on the city’s west side. Police arrested the man a short time later.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.

Police say the victims are recovering from physical injuries.
