SYDNEY, N.S. -- Weather conditions in the Cabot Strait have forced Marine Atlantic to delay today's ferry crossings.

Ferries on the route between North Sydney, N.S., and Port aux Basques, N.L., aren't scheduled to leave until just before midnight due to high winds.

The ferry service has experienced a number of delays this winter because of high winds and more recently sea ice.

Late last week the Canadian Coast Guard placed an icebreaker on standby in the area.
