Two people are dead after a home was destroyed by fire in Bouctouche, N.B.
The RCMP and members of the Bouctouche Fire Department responded to the Denis Street home around 1:40 a.m. Monday.
Police say the house was fully engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived on scene.
A man and a woman managed to escape, but they told fire crews that two people were still inside the home.
Police say the ability to search for them was hampered due to the intense heat and smoke, but two bodies were eventually recovered from the home Tuesday morning.
Police believe they may have been overcome by smoke and heat after becoming trapped inside.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death. Their identities have not been released but police say they are believed to be a man and woman.
Of the man and woman who escaped, police say one has since been treated and released from hospital while the other remains in serious condition.
