A coalition forces aircraft carrying Americans, and possibly two Canadians, was forced to land in Iran when local air traffic controllers questioned its flight plan, the Washington Post reports.
The aircraft, which was chartered by coalition forces in Afghanistan, was flying from Bagram Air Base to Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Friday when Iranian air traffic controllers made contact.
The Iranians ordered the pilots to return to Afghanistan and file another flight plan. The pilots responded that the plane did not have enough fuel to return to Afghanistan, and they were told to land.
The plane landed in Bandar Abbas, and was expected to get back in the air soon, the Post reported.
About 100 Americans and “possibly two Canadians” were on the flight, according to the Post.
A spokesperson at the United Arab Emirates embassy in Washington told the Post that she was aware of the incident, but could not offer further details.
