SAO PAULO -- Brazilian police say gunmen have shot and killed a radio journalist known for denouncing local politicians as he hosted his program in a small city in northeastern Brazil.
Police say Gleydson Carvalho was killed Thursday while hosting his program on Radio Liberdade in the city of Camocim in the state of Ceara.
Police say two men barged into the studio, shot Carvalho several times and fled. They remain at large.
Carvalho died while being rushed to a nearby hospital.
The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists said in a statement it was "stunned" by Carvalho's slaying and declared that violence against members of Brazilian press has reached "unacceptable levels."
