The federal government is investing in drone technology that will be used to fight terrorism, CTV News has learned.

Industry Minister James Moore is expected to make the announcement Monday at L-3 WESCAM in Burlington, Ont., though the total amount of funding has not yet been disclosed.

The company’s technology will be used by the RCMP and military to target and capture terrorists and other criminals, both overseas and in Canada, according to a senior government source.

L-3 WESCAM’s products “are used by military, homeland security and law enforcement agencies worldwide,” according to the company’s website.

The company has announced previous deals to sell technology and services to agencies in the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Ireland and the United States.
