Ontario Provincial Police from the West Parry Sound Detachment charged two individuals with impaired driving following separate single-vehicle crashes in the area on Saturday. The two collisions occurred only hours apart on Dec. 13. Early morning crash on Highway 124 The first investigation began at about 1 a.m., when OPP responded to a collision on Highway 124 in McDougall Township. “Officers attended and initiated an impaired driving investigation,” said police in a news release Monday. As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old woman from Bradford-West Gwillimbury was charged with two impaired driving offences – including having a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80. The woman is scheduled to appear in court in Parry Sound on Jan. 5 to answer to the charges. Late morning crash reveals stolen vehicle A second, more serious incident occurred later in the day at about 11 a.m. OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Pickerel River Road in Henvey Inlet First Nation. “Officers attended and initiated an impaired driving investigation and discovered the vehicle involved was stolen from Halton Region,” said police in a separate news release. As a result, a 37-year-old man from Mississauga faces eleven charges, including failing or refusing to comply with a demand, impaired driving, having care and control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available, possession of property obtained by crime and six offences related to operating a vehicle while prohibited or with a suspended licence. The man is scheduled to appear in court in Parry Sound on Jan. 29 to answer to the charges. Additional consequences In addition to the charges, under provincial law, both motorists also received 90-day driver’s licence suspensions and the vehicles involved were impounded for seven days. “Drive sober,” wrote OPP Const. Brandon Charlebois, in social media posts about the crashes.
