MNR seeks info after northern Ont. moose illegally killed, left to waste

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources is asking for the public’s help to find whomever is responsible for illegally shooting a moose and leaving the meat to waste.

The discovery was made about 55 kilometres north of Foleyet in northern Ontario.

The MNR said conservation officers discovered the dead moose on Nov. 5 about 60 metres off a forestry road known as Trans 2 Road in Wadsworth Township, near kilometre marker 14.

Serious offence

“Investigators believe the animal was killed sometime between Oct. 18 and Oct. 25,” the ministry said in a news release.

“The ministry takes this situation very seriously,” said MNR spokesperson Andrew Chambers, in an email to CTV News.

The local ministry office echoed the sentiment.

“This is a serious offence and the ministry is committed to holding those responsible accountable,” MNR officials said in the news release.

Appeal for information

The ministry has released a photo of the abandoned moose and is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
