Looking to book a holiday this fall or winter? Travellers looking for the best deals may want to consult a new report which crunched the data to reveal the best times to book a Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday for savings of up to 10 per cent.
While conventional travel wisdom dictates that the earlier you book, the more you save, a new report from online travel site Skyscanner suggests that savvy procrastinators can also score a good flight deal with a little strategic timing.
Overall, the findings show that travellers will find the best flight deals about four weeks out from peak fall and winter travel periods.
For instance, according to their number crunching, travellers eying a trip during US Thanksgiving (November 24) will want to begin conducting their search the week of October 31, when they stand to save about eight percent off their airfare.
Interestingly, those savings on Thanksgiving flights drops to five percent the week of October 17.
At the same time, holidaymakers planning a trip home for Christmas or a winter getaway will want to bookmark the week of Thanksgiving, which has been identified as the best window for flight savings, at six percent.
The week of December 5 is also predicted to offer savings of up to five percent.
And for those looking to ring in the New Year in a different city, booking a flight the week of December 5 will save travellers up to 11 percent.
For the report, analysts looked at the historical data of users' booking and travel habits within Skyscanner's database from 2015.
In a Twitter survey, 44 per cent of respondents said they book their flights six months to a year in advance; 17 per cent book three to five months out; and 39 percent said they tend to book their travel four to six weeks ahead.
