ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- Newfoundland and Labrador's largest health board says it will examine whether health professionals or relatives should be required for future patient transfers following the death of a patient who fled an ambulance.
Eastern Health issued a statement today saying it has concluded a review of the death of a person who left the ambulance while it was pulled over on the Trans-Canada Highway in St. John's on Sept. 24.
At the time, the health board said the patient was being transported between hospitals and the ambulance had to pull over because of the person's condition.
The patient ran into a wooded area and was later struck by a vehicle on the highway.
Eastern Health says its review concluded that its standard of care was met in the assessment and care of the patient.
Eastern Health says it won't release further details of the review because of patient privacy issues.
