The 'David Bowie Is' art exhibit, which contains more than 300 objects from David Bowie's personal archive, is set to make its debut at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
The multi-sensory exhibition, which spans five decades of flamboyant rock-and-roll icon David Bowie’s career, will make the first stop of its world tour at the AGO in Toronto on Wednesday.
The exhibition includes costumes, videos, set designs, photographs and album sleeve artwork. Visitors will be immersed in Bowie's artistic experimentation and vision in the fields of fashion, sound, theatre, art and film.
Fashion expert Jeanne Beker got a sneak peak of the exhibition and says it is truly inspiring.
"If you're not a Bowie fan, you're going to be a Bowie fan after going through this exhibition," Beker told CTV’s Canada AM.
"He is an inspiration to everyone, whether you are in the creative arts or whether you just want to get in touch with yourself and express yourself."
British-born David Bowie, 66, has sold more than 140 million albums. In March, Bowie released ‘The Next Day,’ his first album in 10 years.
The exhibition, which originated in London, runs in Toronto until Nov. 27. Following the AGO, the display will go to Sao Paulo, Chicago, Paris and Groningen, Netherlands.
The collection includes:
- More than 50 stage costumes including Ziggy Stardust bodysuits (1972)
- Music videos including Boys Keep Swinging (1979) and Let’s Dance (1983)
- Set designs created for the Diamond Dogs tour (1974)
- Kansai Yamamoto’s flamboyant creations for the Aladdin Sane tour (1973)
- Photographs by Helmut Newton, Brian Duffy and John Rowlands
- Album sleeve artwork by Guy Peellaert and Edward Bell
- Excerpts from films and live performances including Saturday Night Live (1979)
