Stop if you've heard this one before. A pop star walks into a bar in Ottawa, buys a beer and pays in exact change – no tip.

The pop star is Stratford, Ont.-born Justin Bieber, and the bar is Ottawa's historic Chateau Lafayette, in the Byward Market area.

Bieber stopped in at the Lafayette on Thursday, during a busy day on the town that also included a visit to a golf bar, a stop-in at Tim Hortons and a reflective stop in the park.

Chateau Lafayette bartender Adam Scully said it was a shock to see Bieber stroll in, pull up a stool and order a beer. "The 'Biebs' stopped by here. Was not expecting that," Scully told CTV Ottawa. He added that a few people approached the pop star, "but overall he was just keeping to himself."

Staff at the bar said Bieber drank a single Bud Light. His assistant ordered the drink and did not leave a tip, they said.

Assistant manager Deek Labelle said Bieber should have known it's customary to leave a tip, since he grew up in Canada. "It's expected," she said.

Bieber also posed for a photo at the bar with a fan's newborn baby in his arms.

In addition to his visit to "The Laff," Bieber paid a brief visit to Mulligans Golf Bar in downtown Ottawa, where he posed for a rare photo with a handful of golfers.

The pop star recently announced he would not be taking photos with fans, but he seems to have bent his rules a few times during his Ottawa visit.

Several social media users shared snapshots of Bieber on his day in the nation's capital, relaxing in the park, grabbing a hot dog and walking out of a Tim Hortons with an ice cap.

Bieber was dressed in an outfit similar to the one he wore when he met then-prime minister Stephen Harper, back in 2012. He had on a white long-sleeved shirt and overalls, with one strap done up.

Bieber is scheduled to perform in Ottawa on Friday.
