Many Vancouver commuters went through a hellish evening rush on Tuesday, when a significant glitch in the city's SkyTrain system left 19 passenger-laden trains stranded for more than two hours between New Westminster and the downtown core.
The TransLink communication glitch snarled service between Waterfront Station and Royal Oak Station beginning at around 4:20 p.m.
The disruption lasted until full service was restored at around 6:45 p.m.
During the disruption, irate passengers packed into stuffy, sweaty SkyTrains turned to Twitter to vent their frustrations under the hashtag #SkyHostage.
@TransLink hi, my name is Jon and I'm one of your #Skyhostage. I need to use the bathroom, can I leave the SkyTrain?

#Translink has two CEOs now. Can't one of them get out and push? #SkyHostage

.@translink It's chaos at Waterfront. I just saw a man eat his daughter for sustenance. There's no water. Wolves are howling. #skyhostage
