Victoria Police are apologizing after giving a military veteran a ticket during the funeral procession for Private Steven Allen, the soldier killed during a training exercise in Alberta on Nov. 6.
An officer issued the ticket to the woman on Remembrance Day for having an obstructed licence plate.
The ticket was for $230, but it’s also coming at the cost of some bad P.R. for the Victoria Police Department.
“I understand why our community is upset,” Chief Frank Elsner told CTV News Tuesday, adding he “wasn’t happy that enforcement action was being taken” on Nov. 11.
Elsner also said the officer had their reasons for issuing the ticket.
“But there was no connection, the officer felt, to the actual escort at the time -- so that's why the ticket was laid,” he said.
